Club AU & Radar presents: THE BASEMENT PARTIES #1 - Friday 4th June 2010

Club AU and Radar presents:

THE BASEMENT PARTIES, #1

Featuring an exclusive live act, to be revealed on Tuesday June 8.

Plus AU DJs

SATURDAY JUNE 12

THE BUNATEE BAR, QUBSU, BELFAST.

DOORS 10PM, ADM: £5

There was a time, not too many moons ago, when a series of underground parties took place in a basement in Belfast. Bands used to play right in the middle of the floor, eye-to-eye with the crowd – no barriers, no security, no attitude. They were raucous, legendary affairs that grew, spread and exploded, until like all good things, they came to an end. The authorities put a stop to proceedings, and so the parties went down in a blaze of glory, and were consigned to the history books.

Now AU has teamed up with Radar to recreate the atmosphere and ideology behind these parties, only in a new space. The Bunatee Bar, in Queen’s Student Union will play host to an intimate performance from a band who are stars and trailblazers within the world of Northern Irish music. Like the AU parties of yore, the band will playing right in the middle of the floor, with everyone crowded round, face-to-face with nowhere to hide. It’s going to be intense, and unrepeatable. You will never see this band in such a close confine again. To be honest, it’s a bit scandalous.

To top off the night, the AU DJs will follow the incendiary live performance with a characteristically party-heavy selection of tunes. You can expect to rave, rock, and wreck yourself. The whole thing will be more than memorable. Make it a date.

PANAMA KINGS, ED ZEALOUS AND MORE THIS SATURDAY - Thursday 22nd April 2010

A stellar cast of top Northern Irish talent takes to the stage this Saturday evening in the Mandela Hall. Top of the bill is hotly tipped indie rock 3 piece Panama Kings. At the forefront of the explosion of local talent in Northern Ireland in the last few years the band have toured all over the UK with Ash on their A to Z tour, featured on the front cover of AU Magazine and released two critically acclaimed singles, 'Young Blood' and 'Golden Recruit.' The band are recently shorn of founder member Luke Carson but the trio of Stuart Bell, Niall Kennedy and Richard McAuley have reworked old tracks and written new songs to continue the Panama Kings journey.

Support on the night comes from three other top local acts. Ed Zealous are stalwarts of the Northern Irish scene and have been creating industry buzz for the last few years. With one of their earlier singles 'Pretty Face' has recently been sound tracking a Harp Lager TV campaign. Cashier No.9, the brainchild of Danny Todd, have exploded in the last 12 months. They've recorded their debut album in LA and worked with legendary producer David Holmes. Last month the band played 2 soldout nights in the Olympia Theatre, Dublin as guests of French legends Air. Before Machines are the newest band on the line-up having formed in late 2008 but they've steadily seen their stock rise with thrilling live performances of their intricate rock styling.

TV On The Radio Guitarist Brings Solo Project To Belfast - Tuesday 13th April 2010

TV On The Radio vocalist and guitarist Kyp Malone’s brings his solo project Rain Machine to Belfast for a gig at the Speakeasy on Wednesday 14th April. Released on ANTI Records in late 2009 the project is provocative, unique and deeply personal to the artist. Rain Machine features ten unflinchingly original and emotional songs mixing elements of modern jazz, blue-grass and blistering guitar driven rock into a refreshing new sound. As singer and guitarist for celebrated band TV on the Radio, Malone proved himself both a captivating and delightfully unpredictable musical force. On Rain Machine, he shows himself a singer and a lyricist of startling talents. Malone recently described Rain Machine as “a nearly full spectrum of frequencies audible to the human ear, a reflection of a variety of emotions and situations real and imagined - some rhythm some rhyme.” In most instances such a statement could be dismissed as nothing more than playful hyperbole. This is not one of those times. Rain Machine is the sound of an extraordinary artist emerging into his own.
