Radar presents: Sons of Caliber - Speakeasy

Katie and the Carnival & The Lambing Season
Thursday 8th March 2012 21:00

Sons Of Caliber

Sons of Caliber evoke a sound once narrated as an echo from time's past, and a sensation from time's present. 'Music for folks' it has been rendered. From time spent in the North Carolina mountains, Andrew Farmer's manifesto was birthed : fusing the rhythm of his Northern Irish home land with a beat from the Bible belted South. Expect a melodic journey of innocence, the kind where lyrics fall from his sleeve and you slowly leave your chair for home, tunefully content. Acoustical? Yes, for the most part, instruments of the earthy nature, Sons of Caliber emerge from the woods to tell you tales of Irish wolves and starry nights.

Katie and the Carnival

Katie and the Carnival are an energetic and engaging group based in Belfast. The music is soulful and harmony driven with other influences from folk, pop, jazz, rock and a little bit of dark cabaret!

The band is fronted by Katie Richardson who has been described as "every bit the sparkling front woman, armed with a ludicrously sultry voice" by ATL.

The Lambing Season

"With a seven piece line-up (including brass) it would be easy to get lost in the wall of sound, but the bass and guitar are unobtrusive, the songs carried by the voices and some very talented drumming. The Lambing Season are what The Arcade Fire would sound like if they were from Summerisle, the creepy island from the non-Nicholas Cage version of The Wickerman. The band sound great here and would sound even better in a sunny field somewhere. Festival bookers take note."
