|Fang Island have announced a European tour for April 2013 that will include a date in Bar Sub at Queen's University Students' Union. Having toured throughout their native U.S alongside the likes of the Flaming Lips, The Joy Formidable and The Red Sparowes, this will be their second visit across the Atlantic.
With members having previously spent time in Daughters and after independently releasing previous E.Ps, Fang Island released their self-titled album on Sargent House (Russian Circles, ASIWYFA) in 2010 to considerable critical praise with Pitchfork awarding the record a "best new music" designation and describing it as possessing "a rare concentration of directness and simplicity that makes Fang Island so uniquely and wonderfully inclusive."
That record was followed by last year's Major, which again drew praise from all corners of the media prompting the BBC to state "it’s (probably scientifically) impossible to come away from Major without a big dumb grin plastered from ear to ear."
The band describe their sound as "everyone high-fiving everyone" and state that their goal is to "make music for people who like music".
They will be supported by label-mates No Spill Blood,a n Irish three-piece super-group, of sorts, that consists of bassist/vocalist Matt Hedigan of Elk, drummer Lar Kaye of Adebisi Shank and keyboards by Ruadhan O’Meara of Magic Pockets.
"Fang Island are simply killer fun, a proper gang who sing collectively and pummel their guitars without recourse to errant soloing." Four Stars -- MOJO
"Honest, life-affirming and infectious, and it's that rare concentration of directness and simplicity that makes Fang Island so uniquely and wonderfully inclusive." Best New Music -- Pitchfork
Fang Island will play Bar Sub on Wednesday April 10th 2013. Tickets, priced £8, are on sale now from QUBSU Reception and Ticketmaster outlets.
